  • Advanced Wound Care Fellowship

    Location: Stanford University, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Palo Alto, CA Date Available: July 1, 2016 Requirements: Must have completed an internship (with eligibility for licensure in California) and be a graduate of or trainee in an accredited residency program, such as plastic surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, internal medicine, dermatology, etc. Foreign applicants are welcome. Position Description: A one-year position in Comprehensive Wound Care is available beginning July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017, at the Stanford University Medical Center. Individuals will acquire deep expertise in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient wound care including hands on experience in reconstructive surgery (plastic, vascular, podiatric, orthopedic), diagnostic evaluation (infectious disease, dermatology) and multidisciplinary management (rehabilitation medicine, physical therapy, nutrition). At the conclusion of this fellowship, the trainee will be prepared to independently organize, develop and run a state-of-the-art wound service. Fellows will be appointed as Clinical Instructors. Along with their clinical training, fellows will participate and plan clinical trials within the Stanford Applied Regenerative Medicine Program (SARM) and the Stanford Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (SCBRM). Fellows will be exposed to emerging technologies in wound care including EMR based data analytics, stem cell therapies, point-of–care diagnostics and others. Fellows will gain hands on experience in the evidence-based use of existing wound technologies including hyperbaric oxygen, skin substitutes and negative pressure. The position is offered through the newly opened state-of-the-art Stanford Advanced Wound Center (AWCC). Stanford also has a Level I Trauma Center, a Comprehensive Cancer Center and exposure to burn patients via the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Fellows will be supported to submit abstracts and attend all major wound meetings including the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC), the Wound Healing Society (WHS) and the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair (ACWHTR).
