The Commission on Cancer (CoC) seeks surgeons, registrars, surveyors and cancer conference coordinators to participate in short term focus groups to discuss the new 2020 CoC operative standards and identify any potential barriers to implementation.
Who should apply: Surgeons who are involved in the care of patients with breast, melanoma, colon, rectal and lung cancer and registrars, surveyors and cancer care coordinators who are active in the CoC.
Time commitments: From September 9 through October 9 there will be three one-hour phone calls. Up to one hour of preparation may be required to review the operative standards and complete a 10-question survey. Total time commitment is estimated at four hours.
Two multidisciplinary focus groups (one for breast/melanoma and one for colon/rectum/lung) will meet by phone to review and discuss the new CoC operative standards and the original materials used to draft the standards. These focus groups will include nine volunteers (four surgeons of appropriate specialties; two registrars; two surveyors; and one cancer conference coordinator) who will be tasked with identifying issues that may arise in implementation of the new CoC standards. The task force will be asked to help expert panels identify educational and dissemination approaches best suited to address identified barriers.

Focus group members will be selected based on their role, area of expertise and availability to attend the calls at the dates/times specified in the survey.
