  • Calling All Surgeon Writers!

If you're a surgeon who enjoys writing, the newest ACS Community is for you. The Surgeon Writers online community debuted last month and is open to writers of all levels of experience. The community arose from member interest, as writers wanted a place to post questions about their writing in a supportive environment, much as surgeons discuss issues relative to the practice of surgery in other communities. Carol Scott-Conner, MD, PhD, FACS, a general surgeon, leads the community. After writing or editing more than 10 surgical textbooks, she turned to creative writing. She has authored two books of short stories and is working on a series of books on medical writing. Advisors to the community include two accomplished nonfiction writers: Kenneth Lipshy, MD, FACS, and Byers Shaw, Jr., MD, FACS. These surgeons anticipate that the new community will thrive and become a vibrant part of your writing life.
