  • YFA Speed Mentoring Program for Residents and Associate Fellows

    This is an opportunity for early career young surgeons (Residents or Associate Fellows of the College) to develop a mentoring relationship with an established Fellow of the College during a round-robin discussion format.

    How to Apply

    YFA is seeking applications from members of the College who would like to apply for the YFA Speed Mentoring Program.  This is an opportunity to talk to up to five (5) individuals during a one-hour session. 

    We are seeking both Mentors and Mentees.  Please see the descriptions for each role below and click on the link to complete the application.

    Mentee Application Process

    Applicants should be members of the College who are Residents or Associate Fellows.   Applicants in need of mentorship in the following subjects should apply:

    Finding a job or Negotiating a contract
    Academic career or Private practice
    Work life balance or Surgeon and parenting
    How to get involved in the ACS or How to develop leadership skills
    Research career or Academic career
     

    Mentee responsibilities include:

    Be on time to attend the ACS Clinical Congress in San Diego, CA for the planned event on the Tuesday afternoon of the meeting between 4:00 – 5:00 pm
    Come to the meeting prepared with  at least one question to initiate the 10-minute conversation with each of five (5) mentor on the one of the subjects for each of the subject pairs above
    Complete an evaluation form at the conclusion of the program
    The application will require:

    Contact information
    Statement of purpose for wanting to attending the session

    Mentor Application Process

    YFA is seeking individuals who would like to serve as mentors for the YFA Speed Mentoring Program.  Applicants must be Fellows of the College. Applicants should be able to mentor a mentee in one of the following pairs of subjects:

    Finding a job or Negotiating a contract
    Academic career or Private practice
    Work life balance or Surgeon and parenting
    How to get involved in the ACS or How to develop leadership skills
    Research career or Academic career
     

    Mentor responsibilities include:

    Come to the meeting prepared to hold a 10-minute discussion with up to five (5) mentees, one at a time, comfortable with one of the subject pairs listed above
    Complete an evaluation form at the conclusion of the program
