Title:Telemedicine: The Rapidly Expanding Field of Video-Based Telemedicine Health Care
Description:Telemedicine is rapidly expanding throughout health care, and surgeons must lead this change. The ACS hosted its first telemedicine skills course at Clinical Congress 2012, and this 2014 course will build on that success. Telemedicine is critical for surgeons to learn and integrate in their practice; including rural clinics, education, international outreach, and operative telementoring. The national market for telemedicine is rapidly expanding, as recognized by many surgeons, federal reform, the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This course offers a blend of 30 percent didactic and 70 percent hands-on interactive teaching led by surgical experts showcasing live clinics, intraoperative telementoring, and strategies for building/growing a telemedicine practice. The course instructors will leverage the latest technology and best practices and offer rich faculty discussion.
