Advanced Endoscopic Techniques & Resource Utilization Skills Training for the Rural Surgeon

The course will be held at the University of North Dakota Medical Education Center in Fargo following the ND & SD Chapters of the ACS 2015 Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

Amy L. Halverson, MD, FACS, the course chair, will be joined by faculty from the region: John Martin, MD, FACS (Rochester, MN); Ross Meidinger, MD (Fargo, ND); Marc Puls, MD, FACS (Alpen, MI); Michael Spencer, MD, FACS (Minneapolis, MN); and Robert Sticca, MD, FACS (Fargo, ND) for this hands-on skills course. This live activity has been approved for up to 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

This course will cover the management of esophageal foreign bodies, endomucosal resection of polyps, endoscopic dilation and stent placement. There will also be a focus on advanced methods of colon polyp removal that will allow surgeons to manage large polyps, which would otherwise require surgery through colonoscopy. Additionally, the course will cover new techniques to manage urgent conditions, such as gastrointestinal bleeding and obstruction. Resource utilization in the critical access hospital will be addressed.
